Disney's AI-Powered Robots Are Changing Entertainment Forever

Disney is taking a bold step into the future of robotics! In collaboration with Nvidia and Google DeepMind, Disney Research is developing Newton, an advanced physics engine designed to help robots navigate complex tasks with greater accuracy. This innovation will transform the way robotic characters interact in Disney theme parks, making them more lifelike than ever.

A New Era of Theme Park Robots

At the GTC AI Conference, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang introduced the world to Blue, a charming robot that communicated through "beep-boop" sounds and animated movements. The audience responded with enthusiastic applause as Blue showcased its interactive capabilities.

Disney's BDX droids, inspired by Star Wars, will soon appear at Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris. First revealed at SXSW 2025, these robots aim to enhance the theme park experience by creating immersive, AI-driven interactions.

"The BDX droids are just the beginning. We're dedicated to bringing characters to life in ways the world hasn't seen before."
— Kyle Laughlin, SVP, Disney Imagineering R&D

Meanwhile, Newton, built on Nvidia's Warp Framework, will give Disney's robotic characters the ability to move more fluidly and respond to their environment in real time.

In addition to its work with Disney, Nvidia unveiled Isaac GR00T N1, an open-source humanoid robot model designed to accelerate AI-driven automation. Huang believes humanoid robots could replace factory workers much sooner than expected:

"This isn't a problem that's five years away—it's happening much sooner."
— Jensen Huang, CEO, Nvidia

With AI advancing at an unprecedented pace, Disney's latest venture could redefine the future of entertainment. Are we ready for theme parks filled with interactive, AI-powered characters?
